Welcome to the Alumni Update. We are proud of the accomplishments
of our alumni who are attending college, serving in the armed
forces, and working. Each year Step Up offers alumni in college
the opportunity to apply for the Step Ahead grant, which is
awarded to the students who continue to demonstrate commitment
to academic achievement, community service and responsible
leadership.
The Step Ahead Awards Committee met on September 8, 2008
to decide upon this year's recipients. Twenty four students,
the highest number since the award's inception, applied, with
twenty two students being granted awards. The 2008 recipients
impressed the committee with their continued commitment to
academic achievement, community service, leadership and Step
Up itself. Many thanks go to the advisory board members, program
directors, students and mentors who worked on the committee.

I'm currently working on my bachelors degree in Music Business at The University of Massachusetts Lowell, while also touring with, and constantly playing shows all over the North East with my band Easton Legacy. We recently finished shooting a music video and are recieving intrest from a few Independent Lables. Step Up has really prepared me for this in that I was shown the importants of being prepared, being independent, given chances to network early on an hone my skills as well as being show the importants of striving for a greater level of sucess. I would like to thank step up for all of the incredible opportunities I wouldn't have be given a chance to experience had I not been a participant. I gained a great deal of buisiness sense and music understanding from my summers at Exeter and Berklee College of music and it truly cemented my love for music and the music industry. I was definitely given a strong direction in what I wanted to do with my life and I have to program to thank for it.
